Can I bring my dog?

One of the most frequently asked questions the world over is can I bring my dog? So here at The Pilgrm, we’re proud to say the answer is a big yes - but there’s one or two things you’ll need to know before you do. And we thought we’d throw in a couple of four legged friendly attractions to boot.

Bringing your furry pal with you to London is a delicious treat in itself. All you have to consider is that you’re only able to have one pooch per booking and the supplemental charge is £30 in addition to your bedroom.

The two little scamps featured above, Olive and Winnie loved their last trip to the big smoke, and here’s a small taste of what they got up to.

For lunch, dinner or drinks with the pooch Maggie Jones’s in Notting Hill is a must – they’re warm, friendly folks who coo of over four legged companions. Running for over 40 years Maggie’s regulars include Princess Anne who happened to book under the alias Maggie Jones, where the name across the door comes from. Their classic British menu is served in their signature farmhouse style interiors, located just a five minute walk from Notting Hill Gate station.

For cocktails and other eccentricities, Smith & Whistle in Piccadilly serve up their very own “dogtail” menu, featuring “Bubbly Bow Wow”, an elderflower herbal infusion topped with blueberries. This effortless complements their menu for all mankind, of course. A doggie day out in the city centre, what more could one ask for?

For the tired little pooch looking for spa and treatments. Located in Fulham The Pet Spa offers grooming, personalised health checks and a selection of achingly hip accessories. There are also plenty of well-stocked shops nearby for all of your pampered pooches’ needs. Purple Bone and Pet Pavilion in Notting Hill and Mungo & Maud in Belgravia offer up the most stylish of accessories.

For a day at the Heath with your ol’ pal. Woodlands, heathlands and pond life – Hampstead Heath is a very special place that comes complete with its own Dog Pond. A doggie haven where pooches can gather, mingle and get to know one another. Topped off with an infinite number of dog friendly pubs all around the Heath. Once you’ve ambled on the Heath and worked up an appetite, there are many wonderful pubs serving delicious food for humans and dogs to choose from. For a good hearty meal head to the historic and cosy Spaniards Inn where the infamous highwayman, Dick Turpin, was reported to have been born centuries ago. If a gastro pub is more your style, The Wells Tavern is a fantastic pit stop with an extensive gin list as well as great food and beer.

London is one of the most dog friendly cities in the world and this is reflected in the ever-growing number of pet friendly cafe’s, restaurants and canine activities now available. Dogs can travel for free on the London Underground which means you and your furry friend can do all the exploring your heart desires. Most iconic London black cabbies are also usually more than happy for dogs to travel in their taxis.

So if you and the pooch are headed our way, we’re excited to see you – but please don’t forget to bring his or her favourite bedding, as unfortunately we’re unable to provide this, and of course he or she, would much prefer their own, we’re sure.
